- If Jesus came to save us from death, yet we all die, what exactly did He save us from?

Well, to answer that question, we must first look at two very important facts:

Your soul cannot die. Your body can. (It will be resurrected at the end of time.) But your soul is immortal. It can never not exist.

And

In the end, your soul will spend forever in one of only two places: Heaven or Hell.

(Before reading further, please let these two points sink in.)

So now, with these foundational stones in place, let us return to the original question: “What exactly did Christ save us from?”

Jesus Christ came, suffered, died, and rose to save us from eternal death (dying eternally). And dying spiritually/eternally makes dying bodily/physically look like a walk in the park. How so? Well, for starters, notice the “ing” ending on the word. Eternally dying doesn’t end. It goes on and on -- forever. And physical death is not even in the same league as spiritual death -- the latter is way worse.

If we truly understood these things, we’d live our lives much differently. This is part of what is meant by the old saying, “fear of the Lord”.

Jesus loves us so much that He took on the punishment we deserved, thus giving us a way to enter the joys of Heaven and not the horrors of Hell.

Thank you, Lord Jesus!
