- Do Catholics worship Mary?

No. A thousand times: No. Worship is reserved for God alone -- for the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We, as His creation, owe all of our praise, worship, and adoration solely to Him.

However, we do venerate (honor) Mary, holding her in the highest esteem among all of God’s creatures.

Here are a few reasons:

She is the Immaculate Conception (meaning she has been kept from all sin from the moment of her existence)

She is the Mother of God (freely agreeing to play a key role salvation history)

She is Jesus’s first and most faithful disciple (sharing in His joys and sufferings)

She is the greatest of all saints (and the strongest human enemy of the Devil)

She is the Queen of Heaven (and our greatest human advocate before God)

God has accorded Mary a unique specialness, and Mary has reciprocated by doing His will, every time she was asked. And since her Assumption into Heaven, Mary has appeared on earth numerous times to call us back to God’s ways.

Mary is our spiritual mother, and we are her spiritual children.

And her constant prayer for us is that we be united with her Son, Jesus.
