Fatima relates to one of the most dramatic Miracles, subsequent to the time of Christ and the Apostles. It is now just over 100 years ago. It involved three shepherd children in Portugal in 1917 during WWWI. By God's Will, an Angel prepared the children for the Mother of God's visit. Mary, herself, visited the children and shared with them visions and secrets. It culminated with the Miracle of the Sun, which tens of thousands of people (some say 70,000) witnesses, was chronicled by both secular and Church news sources. It was declared scientifically inexplicable, and not just by the Church.

Fatima has been called the most studied of Apparitions of Our Lady.

It is approved by the Church.

Visions during Fatima included Christ Himself, Mary the Mother of God, and St. Joseph.

Over the years it seems like there have been many sites, articles and the like about Fatima. Some of these emphasize specific aspects. There seems to be some differing of these emphases. This site is to report the words of Heaven without opinion or emphasis.

This site has sought out a source on Fatima, which has been stated to be definitive. This definitive source is "The Whole Truth About Fatima" by Frere Michel de la Sainte Trinite, published circa 1983. This site will provide the information in a matter of fact manner using the record found in this book.

According to his 500-600 page book, which is quite exhaustive, these are the words of Fatima found from the beginning of the book until page 388. The book provides context, information about what was seen by the children and people present, newspaper article references, photographs and analyses. This site provides solely the most important of the messages.

In 1915, the first apparition :

It occurred in the field, when the primary child visionary, Lucy, had turned eight years old. No words were spoken by what was later believed to be an Angel. Some companions of Lucy, who also saw it, told their families. The news spread. Lucy’s mother dismissed it as childish nonsense. Ridicule was a part of the response.

In 1916. there were (3) apparitions :

Heavenly Angels sent to prepare the children. During these pre-cursors, here are the words as recorded in the book … :

Angel : “Do not be afraid. I am the Angel of Peace. Pray with me.

My God

I believe I adore I hope I love You

I asked pardon of You for those who

do not believe

do not adore

do not hope

do not love You.

(Which was said 3 times)

Pray thus.

The Hearts of Jesus and Mary are attentive to the voice of your supplication.”

At another Angelic visit of 1916 … :

Angel: “What are you doing? Pray pray very much! The holy Hearts of Jesus and Mary have designs of mercy on you. Offer prayers and sacrifices constantly to the Most High. Make of everything you can a sacrifice and offered to God as an act of preparation for the sins by which He is offended and in supplication for the conversion of sinners. You will the draw down peace upon your country. I am its Angel Guardian, the Angel of Portugal. Above all accept and bear with submission the suffering which the Lord will send you.

At another Angelic visit, which was the Angel of the Eucharist … this occurred:

While tending sheep in the countryside, they saw an Angel. He was holding a chalice in his left hand with the Host suspended above it from which some drops of Blood fell into the chalice. The Angel made them repeat the following three times:

Most Holy Trinity

Father Son and Holy Spirit

I offer you the most Precious

Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity

of Jesus Christ

Present in all the tabernacles of the world

in reparation

for the sacrileges, outrages and indifference

by which He Himself is offended

and through the infinite merits of

His Most Sacred Heart

and the Immaculate Heart of Mary

I beg of of You

the conversion of poor sinners.

Take and drink of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ

horribly outraged by ungrateful men!

Make reparation for their crimes

and console your God.

Before or during 1917 … :

It is worth noting that records of the events began at this time. They included the original 1915 apparition.

On May 13, 1917, Our Lady appeared to the three children … :

MARY: "Do not be afraid. I will do you no harm."

CHILD: "Where does your grace come from?"

MARY: "I am of Heaven."

CHILD: "What does your grace want of me?"

MARY: "I have come to sk you to come here for six months in succession, on the 13th day, at this same hour. Later on, I will tell you who I am and what I want. Afterwards, I will return here yet a seventh time."

At this point the child asks about their personal salvation as in "going to Heaven". Albeit interesting, this site is focused on the words of Mary that are applicable to the larger whole. It is interesting that Mary relays that one of the children, who was not able to hear Mary's words, would have to say many Rosaries in coordination with going to Heaven.

MARY: "Are you willing to offer yourselves to God and bear all the sufferings He wills to send you, as an act of reparation for the sins which He is offended, and of supplication for the conversion of sinners?"

CHILD/CHILDREN: "Yes, we are willing."

MARY: "Then you are going to have much to suffer, but the grace of God will be your comfort."

And due to an "impulse", the children knelt and prayed.

CHILDREN: "O Most Holy Trinity, I adore You! My God, my God, I love You in the most Blessed Sacrament!"

MARY: "Pray the Rosary every day, in order to obtain peace for the world, and the end of the war."

CHILD: "Can you tell me if the war will go on a long time, or will end soon?"

MARY: "I cannot tell you that yet, because I have not yet said what I want."

On June 13th, Our Lady appeared again to the three children … Our Lady was there on the holm oak tree exactly as before in May … :

CHILD: “What does your grace one of me?”

MARY: “I will wish you to come here on the 13th of next month to pray the Rosary each day and to learn how to read. Later I will tell you what I want.”

CHILD: “I asked for the cure of a sick person.”

MARY: “If he is converted he will be healed during the year.”

CHILD: “I would like to ask you to take us to heaven.”

MARY: “Yes I will take Jacinta and Francisco soon. But you are to stay here for sometime longer. Jesus wishes to make use of you to make me known and loved. He wants to establish in the world a devotion to my Immaculate Heart. To whomever embraces this devotion I promise salvation. These souls shall be dear to God as flowers placed by me to adorn His throne.”

CHILD: “Am I to stay here alone” ( asked sadly )

MARY: “No my daughter. Do you suffer a great deal? Don't lose heart. I will never forsake you. My Immaculate Heart will be your refuge in the way that will lead you to God.”

On July 13th, again the children had a vision of Mary … :

CHILD: “What does your Grace wanted me?”

MARY: “I want you to come here on the thirteenth of the next month continue to pray the Rosary every day in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary; in order to obtain peace for the world and the end of the war because only She can help you.

CHILD: “I would like to ask you to tell us who you are into work a miracle so that everybody will believe that you are appearing to us.”

MARY: “Continue to come here every month in October. I will tell you who I am and what want and I will perform a miracle for all to see him believe.

CHILD: additional requests made by her

MARY: Our Lady said it was necessary for such people to pray the Rosary in order to obtain these graces through the year. “Sacrifice yourselves for sinners and say many times especially when you make some sacrifice …

Oh Jesus it is for love of You

for the conversion of sinners and

the reparation for the sins committed

against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

At this time there was a vision of hell, which the children were shown … .

MARY: Said very kindly and sadly. “You have seen hell where the souls of poor sinners go; to save them God wishes to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart. If what I say to you is done many souls will be saved and there will be peace. The war is going to end. But if people do not cease offending God, a worst one will break out during the reign of Pius XI. When you see the night illuminated by an unknown light know that this is the greats sign given to you by God that He is about to punish the world for its crimes by means of war, famine, and persecutions of the Church and of the Holy Father. To prevent this I shall come to ask for the consecration of Russia to my Immaculate Heart and the Communion of reparation on the first Saturdays ….”

NOTE: Pope Pius XI was the name of the Pope during what would be WWII. The sign mentioned by Mary and sent by God did occur in Jan 1938 in Europe on eve of WWII and was reported in the press.

“If my requests are heeded, Russia will be converted and there'll be peace. If not she will spread her errors throughout the world causing wars and persecutions of the Church. The good will be martyred. The Holy Father will have much to suffer and various nations will be annihilated ….”

NOTE: Russia became Communist in 1917.

“In the end my Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me and she will be converted.”

NOTE: John Paul II consecrated the entire world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary in the late 1980s.

“And a certain period of peace will be granted to the world. In Portugal the dogma of the faith will always be preserved. Do not tell this to anyone. When you say the Rosary say after each mystery

Oh my Jesus forgive us

Save us from the fire of hell

Lead all souls to heaven

Especially those who are in the most need

CHILD: “Is there anything more than you wanted me?”

MARY: “No I do not want anything more of you today.”

NOTE: At this time there were 3000 to 5000 people present.

NOTE: What occurred during this July 13th appearance was a promise of a miracle to come and the delivery of the great secret, which was not revealed until 1960 when it was handed to Pope John XXIII.

On August 19th *, there was a vision of Mary … :

NOTE: *The children had been abducted by authorities to the city in order to interfere with any appearance on the 13th. The three children were shut up in the room of an official and would not be freed until they revealed the secret. They did not reveal the secret. On Sunday August 19 when the children were back home, Mary appeared in the same spot as previously used. The children were again shepherding in the fields at the time of the appearance.

CHILD: “What do you want to me?”

MARY: “I want you to continue going to the Cova da Iria on the 13th and continue praying the Rosary every day. In the last month I will work a miracle so that all may believe. If you had not been taken away to the city the miracle would have been even greater. St. Joseph will come with the Child Jesus, to give peace to the world. Our Lord will come to bless the people. Our Lady of the Rosary and Our Lady of Sorrows will also come.”

CHILD: “What do you want done with the money that people leave in the Cova da Ira?”

MARY: “Have two litters made. One is to be carried by you and Jacinta into other girls dressed in white; the other one is to be carried by Francisco and three other boys. The money from the litters is for the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. And what is left over will help towards the construction of a chapel that is to be built there.”

CHILD: “I would like to ask you to cure some sick persons.”

MARY: “Yes I will cure some of them during the year.” Then looking sad Our Lady said “Pray pray very much and make sacrifices for sinners; for many souls go to hell because they are none to sacrifice themselves and pray for them.”

Then on Sept 13th, Mary appeared in the same place again … :

NOTE: The book relays that 25,000 to 30,000 people attended.

CHILD: “What do you want to me?”

MARY: “Continue to say the rosary to obtain the end of the war. In October our Lord will come as well as our Lady of Sorrows and Our Lady of Carmel. St. Joseph too, with the Child Jesus to bless the world. God is pleased with your sacrifices … .”

NOTE: One of the three children had been wearing an itchy rope around his neck as a sacrifice. (Probably in the spirit of monastics with austere rules.) Mary relayed that God did not want the boy wearing the rope at night.

CHILD: “I was told to ask you many things, the cure of some sick people, of a deaf mute”

MARY: “Yes I will cure some, but not others because Our Lord does not trust them.”

CHILD: “The people would like to have a chapel here.”

MARY: “With half the money make litters to be carried in for procession on the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary; the other half is for the chapel. … In October, I will perform a miracle so that all may believe.”

On Oct 13th, the last message of Fatima was delivered … :

CHILD: “What does your grace want of me?”

MARY: “I want a chapel to be built here in My honor. I am Our Lady of the Rosary. The war will end soon and the soldiers will return to their homes.”

CHILD: “I have many things to ask of You: to heal some sick people and to convert some sinners, etc.”

MARY: “Some, yes; others no. People must amend their lives and ask pardon for their sins.” She continued with sadness, “They must not offend Our Lord any more for He is already too much offended.”

CHILD: “Do you want anything more?”

MARY: “Nothing more.”

CHILD: “Then neither will I ask anything more of You.”

NOTE: Recall that Our Lady had stated that a great miracle would occur during this particular visit. The Miracle of the Sun and appearances of Christ Jesus, Mary and St Joseph as the Holy Family did occur at this very time. There were nearly 70,000 people present and all but a literal few witnessed the Sun dancing in the sky and falling to the earth. The rain ceased and the very muddy ground turned completely dry. Newspaper articles and photographs are available in the book. Since this page focuses on the messages, it leaves the reader to research the content of the great miracles and visions that so many witnessed. It must be noted that as foretold the horrible WWI ended for military of Portugal soon after and the war itself ended in November 1918. This was far from certain in October 1917.

Further, two of the three children passed away to Heaven soon after. One of the children, Lucy, lived a long life, becoming a nun. She continued to receive messages and the “Great Secret” was delivered to the Pope in 1960.
